The North Korean missile defense testing Essay Example for Free
The North Korean missile defense testing Essay The North Korean missile defense testing in the Pacific is a current event that can be considered to have a great impact in the world today. North Koreaââ¬â¢s neighbors and the United States are particularly concerned because it just raised the accusations that the North is keeping weapons of mass destruction, which could be more dangerous than those threats posed in Iraq. As Marianne Bray claims, the nuclear class has become a high-stakes no bluff game, where the threats are potentially greater than those posed in Iraq (Bray, 2003). According to her, North Korea might be using its nuclear program as a bargaining tool to get attention, money, food and fuel from the outside. The article by Marianne Bray even if it is true supports the idea that media can make or break a companyââ¬â¢s or countryââ¬â¢s image. While it is true that North Korea has strong and big armed forces, ranging in about one-million men and several missiles, Bray may have unintentionally led her readers to believe the far-reaching damage that North Korea can give to the world. This may be seen as an exaggeration of the consequences of North Koreaââ¬â¢s power. Since North Korea claimed to have launched a nuclear underground test a few weeks ago, there have been doubts if indeed North Korea launched the said test as the explosion was only a small one and it still has to be confirmed if it was from a nuclear weapon. Clearly then, the article by Bray has widened North Koreaââ¬â¢s image as a dictator and oppressive regime which can be a great danger to the world. However, she only gave a little importance on North Koreaââ¬â¢s economic capability to endure boycotts from other countries and sanctions which will be given by the United Nations. All in all, this article has been negligent because it has been impartial and reported more on the options that might be taken against North Korea by its neighbors and the United States.

Movies Heros :: essays research papers
I have seen many films, episodes, and all time favorites throughout my life. Attitudes, styles, and feelings are carried out in each film. You learn to enjoy watching these characters assume their role and act in such a notorious way. Every character has his or her way of acting. For example, to be considered a hero in a film, you must be the underdog and be victorious. You can be in romance if you are confident, good-looking, and soft spoken. , you must be the underdog and be victorious. You can be in romance if you are confident, good-looking, and soft spoken. You can be the bully or the nerd. All of these internal and external appearances are all based on performance. Sylvester Stallone will forever be linked to the king of the ring. His little frame accompanied by his tremendous heart just inspired anyone who watched him. Every time you watch a Rocky movie, you feel like you can conquer the world. He used the same technique in some movies, such as, Rambo and Cobra. In Rambo, Stallone was a one-man wrecking crew that he also portrayed in Rocky. He would be sent on one-man missions to destroy the whole country. Throughout all of Stallones movies he has portrayed that love to be the hero. His upbringing, to his sweat filled workouts in the boxing rings of South Philadelphia, has turned him into our hero. He never talked trash he was just a pure fighter overcoming the odds. Harrison Ford is another actor who uses his special talents to be a hero. His Indiana Jones and Star Wars series have been some of the best selling movies of all time. In Indiana Jones, Ford uses intelligence and strength to always save a female or a whole community by himself. He would be called upon, or already be investigating a problem. Next thing you know he is fighting against the whole German Nazi army and coming out victorious. Star Wars was another great battle. This encounter was with a different set of people. He battles with Aliens from outer space. He receives help from another hero in this movie. It was his long time friend, Luke Skywalker, who helped him in this battle. After a long and hard battle they come out on top again. Most people consider Harrison Ford a hero. Believe it or not, there are some female heroes too! They portray heroes in a different way though.

Business Requirements at Canadian Tire Essay
The Canadian Tire Corporation (CTC) was initiated in 1922 when two brothers opened an auto parts store and garage in Toronto, Canada. From 1922 to 2003, their organization grew into a much larger network of businesses, including retail, financial services, and petroleum operations (Haggerty, 2003). There was 45,000 employees working at the various CVC businesses across Canada, and more than 1,000 stores and gas bars. As stated in the reading, CTC businesses were actually comprised into five groups including the following: Canadian Tire Retail, Canadian Tire Financial Services, Candida Tire Petroleum, PartSource, and Markââ¬â¢s Work Wearhouse. Initially, this group of businesses used numerous different hardware, software, operating systems, network services, development tools, and applications. As explained in the reading, the systems at Canadian Tire Retail included POS (point-of sales) systems which were networked to the Canadian Tire Retail data center. The systems at Markââ¬â¢s Work Wearhouse, on the other hand, operated differently and remained separate from the other CTC corporations. While Canadian Tire Retail ran IBM-AS/400 systems in stores, CTFS utilized IBM RS6000 with Intel-Based workstations. PartSource and Canadian Tire Petroleumââ¬â¢s daily transactions were relayed directly into the corporate network from their point-of-sale systems. The Canadian Tire Corporationââ¬â¢s IT department operated and supported over a hundred different mainframe, server, desktop development and integration tools, ten different hardware platforms, 14 operating systems, seven database management systems, and over 450 different production applications. Much of the systems were described as ââ¬Å"nicheâ⬠and ââ¬Å"sunsetâ⬠technologies indicating outdated and inefficient technology. For this reason, and others, IT spending at CTC was considerably higher than the industry standard, and this would only continue to grow. It was necessary for Canadian Tire Corporation to develop an integrated data warehouse system. There were many key individuals whose roles were essential in the shift to developing a new MODULE 2: COURSE PROJECT BUSINESS REQUIREMENTS 3 strategy for Canadian Tire Corporation. Perhaps the most crucial role was that of Andy Wnek, Chief Information Officer/Chief Financial Officer. Wnek led the strategic plan in 2002 (and going forward) to develop the first IT strategy document in many years. Michael Eubanks was hired as Director of Marketing IT which came with the responsibility of creatively partnering more with Canadian Tire Retail. Bridget Martens was assigned as Business Intelligence Manager in early 2003. She was given the responsibility of coordinating the business intelligence program as it began. These individuals played key roles in the development of the business intelligence initiative at Canadian Tire Corporation. The implementation of a data warehouse involved laying out a vision to be ââ¬Å"an agile IT team, aligned to business priorities, operating a simpler technical environment with the appropriate standardized processesâ⬠(Haggerty, 2003). In order to achieve this vision, many requirements were necessary to move forward. First of all, Canadian Tire Retailââ¬â¢s image had historically reflected that of a wholesaler, and the IT group had the challenge of changing this image to that of a retailer, rather than a wholesaler. In order to do this, the team realized that more data was necessary in order to analyze data as a retailer. They were required to look at data on a more analytical basis, analyzing the product, store, and margin trends (Haggerty, 2003). In order to do this, the IT group built the IW in which data was extracted, transformed, and loaded from a variety of sources. This was the essence of building the data warehouse: to consolidate the date into one main system where the information could be analyzed to help form critical business decisions. Additionally, three imperative requirements were identified during the IT strategy 2003. These included the requirements of: becoming better aligned to the business to support strategic and operational priorities and adaptability to changing business priorities, controlling costs through simplifying the technical architecture, improving productivity, and controlling expenses, and implementing governance of IT resources including standardization, risk management, and MODULE 2: COURSE PROJECT BUSINESS REQUIREMENTS 4 developing/implementing sustainable processes. The requirements laid out in this vision actually prompted the development of four programs from the periods of 2003 to 2005. The first program involved implementing a CIO governance program. The second program, provided ââ¬Å"organizational and people capabilitiesâ⬠(Haggerty, 2003) and specified key services that the IT group would need to be able to support to the organization. The third involved process improvements which helped to organize an annual IT strategy planning process. The fourth program involved technological direction which ââ¬Å"laid the foundation for re-architecting the organizationâ⬠(Haggerty, 2003). The areas of business intelligence and data management, application deployment, integration and messaging, standardization and simplification, and security deployment were five areas that required immediate attention. For this reason, these areas also serve as requirements for the data warehouse and business intelligence initiatives to take place. Canadian Tire Corporation is an example of a company in distress whose current architecture and infrastructures did not suffice for longevity and success. The case study further details the journey of CTC, along with its web of networked businesses, as it attempted to change business strategy in an effort to create a more enhanced system of data warehousing and business intelligence. The Myths Of College Majors - 963 Words
ââ¬Å"Myths of College Majorsâ⬠College students have the hardest time paying off their student loans, but why? Well, most students usually pick their major based on their talents and their interests.(Source, Time) This idea sounds like a smart move, but in fact it is putting students in a very difficult situation. Since most majors end up making considerably less money in their first year out of college, it is becoming more and more difficult for majors in the humanities and arts to pay off their student loans. When I chose my major, criminal justice, I did pick it because I had been involved with a police explorer program and participated in a criminal justice internship in high school. I did some research and found that by achieving aâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦I know from researching my career path that the salary I will receive because of my degree will be ample to pay off my loans within a couple of years. Most students end up in debt because they donââ¬â¢t take the time to look ahead to the future. For some it is a $80,000 life experience which leaves a future graduate with debt. For an example, my stepfather is a general manager for a car dealership. We had a conversation about college graduates who apply at his dealership for a salesperson job. These applicants have zero experience and when you look at their college major, it has nothing to do with sales. He had one individual who went to Anderson College. He was a music history major and during his interview he said that he needed the job to pay for his college loan payments. He was over $100,000 in debt. I found this shocking that someone would be that far in debt and they are not even using their degree. This is a common issue with many graduates. A college degree is no guarantee of economic success, but through a graduateââ¬â¢s choice of their major, they can take at least some steps toward boosting their odds. (Source, IM) I interviewed ten family and friends who attended a college or university. Five out of ten people who went to college did not end up graduating. All five who di d not graduate did not have scholarships or grants and had to pay for their tuition. Three of those five said it took over
